The Lyoya family is demanding justice as former Grand Rapids police officer Christopher Schurr’s trial for Patrick Lyoya’s death nears.

The family of Patrick Lyoya, a 26-year-old refugee from the Congo, is seeking justice as a trial approaches for former Grand Rapids Police Officer Christopher Schurr, who is charged with second-degree murder for Lyoya’s death on April 4, 2022. 

Behind closed doors Thursday, U.S. Supreme Court justices are scheduled to discuss the case of a former Grand Rapids police officer who shot a Black Congolese immigrant in the city more than three years ago.
