 More than three years after the fatal police shooting of a Black man in western Michigan, former Grand Rapids police officer Christopher Schurr sat in court April 28 as his long-delayed trial began.

Behind closed doors Thursday, U.S. Supreme Court justices are scheduled to discuss the case of a former Grand Rapids police officer who shot a Black Congolese immigrant in the city more than three years ago.

Throughout his career, Ven Johnson has constantly fought for the underdog.

Former Michigan State Police Sgt. Brian Keely is requesting a stay in a civil case stemming from the death of Samuel Sterling in 2024.
