Biography

Attorney Ven Johnson has been representing victims against insurance companies, big business and government for more than 36 years. He has handled cases in state and federal courts in most Michigan jurisdictions and in courtrooms throughout the United States, winning over $200 million in jury verdicts and achieving case settlements of more than $500 million.

Ven graduated from Douglas MacArthur High School in Saginaw Township, MI in 1979. Ven earned his undergraduate degree at Kalamazoo College in 1983 and received his Juris Doctor at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 1986. Ven worked for a civil defense firm, Kohl Secrest, for nearly 10 years, and switched to a Plaintiff’s firm, Fieger, Fieger, and Schwartz in 1995 where he worked side-by-side with renowned Plaintiff attorney, Geoffrey Fieger. Ven was a partner in that firm from 2001 until he left in 2011, at which time he opened his own personal injury law firm, Johnson Law, PLC, in Detroit’s historic Buhl Building. Less than three years later, Ven expanded his practice, opening an office in downtown Grand Rapids, MI. In 2017, Ven opened his third office in Flint, MI which is now located in the historical Flint Capital Theatre Building in downtown Flint.

Ven has been recognized by legal organizations and publications across the United States for his contributions and achievements in the field of personal injury law. He was honored with the “Advocate” distinction by the American Board of Trial Advocates. Additionally, Ven has received the highly regarded State Bar of Michigan’s “Respected Advocate Award,” which is bestowed by the Michigan Defense Trial Counsel, his opposing counsel, in recognition of an individual’s superb representation of clients and adherence to the highest standards of ethics. Ven was recently inducted into the Michigan Lawyer’s Weekly Hall of Fame.

An active supporter of the legal community, Ven is a member of numerous legal organizations. Ven was an Executive Officer including President of the Michigan Association of Justice (Michigan Trial Lawyers) (“MAJ”). He is also member of the American Association of Justice’s (U.S. Trial Lawyers) (“AAJ”) Leader’s Forum.

He continues to lecture on numerous litigation issues in Michigan and across the United States, as well as support young lawyers through speaking engagements, internships and more. An expert in the field of personal injury law, Ven is often called upon by news organizations, including Fox 2’s “Let it Rip” to speak on legal matters.
