Guidepost Solutions, a firm hired by the Oxford school board to investigate the 2021 deadly shooting, released an independent report on safety and threat assessment at Oxford High School, saying there’s room for improvement in certain areas.

James and Jennifer Crumbley will have their civil trial dismissed in order for Ven Johnson to proceed to the Michigan Court of Appeals on another aspect of the case. They will not be part of that appeal.

The parents​ of the teen who shot and killed four people and injured seven others​ at Oxford High School in November 2021 have been dropped from a civil suit brought by the victims and their families.

An autopsy​ showed the child suffered an internal injury that led him to bleed to death, according to the lawsuit.

Lawyers representing the family of Patrick Lyoya, who was shot and killed by a Grand Rapids police officer, say there’s evidence Christopher Schurr racially profiled Lyoya.

Attorneys Ben Crump and Ven Johnson announced a lawsuit against the Michigan police officer convicted of killing Patrick Lyoya, an immigrant from Congo, in April 2022. “This is simply a case of driving while Black,” Crump said in a press conference. “This is part of a systemic problem.”

Former Grand Rapids police officer Christopher Schurr should not have engaged in a physical confrontation with Patrick Lyoya – and the officer used excessive force when he shot Lyoya in the back of his head, according to experts hired by Lyoya’s family.
