Biography
Jimar W. Cunningham is an attorney and counselor at Ven Johnson Law, where he represents individuals and families in personal injury litigation, including matters involving automobile accidents, dog bites and negligence.
Jimar focuses his practice on injury and disputed liability cases, supporting the firm’s work in holding individuals and institutions accountable. He is committed to serving clients with hard work, effective communication and empathy.
During law school, Jimar clerked for the Honorable Gershwin A. Drain of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, gaining foundational federal court experience that continues to shape his approach to litigation. He was also actively involved in the law school community, serving as class president during his second and final year, vice president of the Black Law Students Association and, as a member of the Moot Court Board of Advocates, representing the University of Detroit Mercy Law at a national competition hosted by Howard University School of Law.
Originally from Rochester, NY, Jimar earned his undergraduate degree in political science, with a minor in criminal justice, from Gannon University in Erie, PA, where he played collegiate football and was recognized as both a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference scholar-athlete and a Division II scholar-athlete. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law.
Outside of his legal practice, Jimar enjoys working out, watching football and going to the movies.
