AYANNA D. HATCHETT

SENIOR TRIAL ATTORNEY

Biography

Ayanna D. Hatchett is a senior trial attorney at Ven Johnson Law, where she's fought on behalf of clients for more than a decade.

Her path to law was shaped by an instinct for service before it was shaped by the law itself. After graduating from Hampton University, she briefly taught in Detroit Public Schools before pursuing her Juris Doctor. Both before and during law school, she was fortunate to clerk for several distinguished and patient state law judges at the district and circuit court levels.

More recently, Ayanna has focused on civil rights litigation in federal courts, where she seeks to hold government officials and institutions accountable to the community members they serve. Many of her cases concern matters of excessive force, false arrest, false imprisonment and deliberate indifference, among other violations. Notably, Ayanna had the privilege of serving as second chair to represent Jerry Blasingame in a jury trial against an officer and municipality in the State of Georgia that resulted in a $100 million verdict, one of the largest excessive force verdicts in U.S. history (Edwards/Blasingame v. City of Atlanta, et al.)

Outside of practicing law, Ayanna is dedicated to serving her community as a member of the Oakland County (MI) Chapter of The Links, Inc. She also enjoys traveling and discovering new music whenever she has the opportunity.
